Newborn Photoshoot in Basel
A natural, candid newborn and baby photoshoot in the comfort of your home.
Imagine your baby in their own space, you feeling at ease after birth, and everyone simply enjoying those tender moments together. No stress, no rush—just pure, heartfelt memories. I believe in capturing real and candid moments without heavy editing, keeping the focus on the natural connection between you and your little one.

Benefits of a natural, at-home Newborn Photoshoot
Have you ever wondered why so many families prefer at-home newborn sessions over styled ones? Here's why:
Recovery after birth
Have you heard of "Wochenbett"? It's all about rest after childbirth. Why go to a photo session when the photographer can come to you? Every mom's recovery is different—some feel ready quickly, others need more time. And that's perfectly fine!
Emotional Connection
Home is where the heart is. Capturing the bond with your newborn in your own space creates authentic, meaningful photos that tell your family’s unique story.
Flexibility
An at-home session lets you set the timing and avoid the stress of transporting your baby. It’s all about comfort and convenience, with time for breastfeeding, diaper changes, and other baby needs.
Documentary Photography style
In our at-home newborn sessions, I capture natural moments and interactions, documenting the real experience of welcoming your baby. This includes intimate moments like breastfeeding, dressing, and sibling interactions.

"An outstanding family photographer with a remarkable ability to capture the essence of every moment. Niki’s photos radiate warmth, love, and genuine connection, reflecting the joy shared by families."

BEHIND THE CAMERA
Nikolett Mayer
As an expat mom living in Basel for over five years, I've learned firsthand how precious it is to capture memories for us, our children and grandchildren. One day, those moments will be all we have left, and that realization inspired me to pursue my passion for family photography.
My goal is to create a relaxed and comfortable environment, so you can truly be yourself. I aim to capture you and your family in the most authentic way, just as you want to be seen and remembered.

Do you have any questions about a newborn home session?
Here are my answers
What is the best age for a newborn photoshoot?
You choose the right time. Whether it's after a few days, weeks, or even months, what matters most to me is that you feel comfortable and ready—both mentally and physically. While many suggest that the best window for newborn photoshoots is within the first two weeks of life, ideally between 5 to 14 days old, it's not set in stone! During this time, babies tend to sleep deeply. They're also less likely to be bothered by colic or baby acne, which can sometimes develop later on. My personal experience supports this too, but please don't worry if you feel ready later. We'll work together to make it happen whenever you're comfortable! :)
What to wear in a newborn photoshoot?
It's best to dress your baby in simple, soft, and comfortable clothing. Avoid outfits with busy patterns or logos that might distract from your baby's adorable features. Neutral colors like white, cream, gray, or pastels tend to photograph well and complement your baby's natural beauty. You can also take advantage of my baby wardrobe, which includes a selection of cute, well-photographed clothes that you can borrow free of charge for the session.
For parents, I recommend wearing outfits in natural tones. You can coordinate colors, but they don't have to match exactly. I personally find that wearing different colors from the same palette, such as olive, brown, beige, or light blue, looks great. For moms, I especially recommend wearing something breastfeeding-friendly, like shirts or dresses that are super comfy.
How to prepare for a newborn photoshoot?
Let's make sure the rooms we'll be using for the shoot are warm, even in summer. Before we start, it'd be fantastic if we could tidy up a little bit in the living room and in the bedroom. If your baby could have a nice feed and a fresh diaper, it would be great. Feel free to gather any special items you'd like included in the photos to make them extra special. If your baby has dry skin, a little bit of skin cream a couple of hours before the shoot can help. Just keep in mind that while I can work magic with editing, I might not be able to completely erase any baby acne.
What if the baby cries all the time?
If your baby gets a bit fussy during the shoot, no worries—we'll take breaks for cuddles and feeding. I can even capture some real moments during these breaks. Remember, I'm a mom too, and I've been through it all. I've seen other babies cry during sessions, so I completely understand.
