Natural, at-home newborn photoshoot in Basel

Hey fellow parents! Isn't it amazing how every moment with our little ones feels like pure magic? From their tiny toes to their adorable giggles, it's all so precious. That's where baby photography comes in—it helps us freeze those heartwarming moments so we can cherish them forever. And guess what, you don`t even need to leave the comfort of your home.

Imagine this: You're at home, feeling all relaxed after giving birth, with your sweet baby nestled in your arms. It's a peaceful scene, filled with love and warmth. There's no hurry, no stress—just precious moments that you'll hold dear forever. That is the benefit of the at-home baby photoshoot.

Here is everything you need to know about newborn and baby photoshoots and my approach to it.

The "ideal" time for newborn photography is often said to be within the first two weeks of your baby's life. That's when they're usually sleeping deeply and less likely to be bothered by things like colic or baby acne. But here's the thing: you get to choose the right time for you. Whether it's a few days, weeks, or even months after your baby's arrival, what matters most is that you feel comfortable and ready—physically and mentally.

I'm here to demonstrate that having a baby photoshoot at a later stage is entirely doable, just like with this lovely family, even around 3-4 months old.

Choosing an at-home newborn photoshoot is a decision many families like you make for several fantastic reasons.

First off, let's talk about recovery after birth. You've just been through a lot, and it's crucial to take it easy. So, why not bring the photoshoot to your doorstep instead of stressing about going out? Everyone's journey after birth is different, and that's totally okay! Whether you're ready to jump back into activities or need more time to rest and heal, it's all about what feels right for you.

Then, there's the emotional connection that comes with being in your own space. Your home is filled with special things that tell your family's story, making the photoshoot even more meaningful. By incorporating these personal touches into the session, we can capture the true essence of your family's love and bond.

One of the best parts of an at-home session is the flexibility it offers. You can choose a time that works perfectly for you and your little one without worrying about travel logistics. This means you have the freedom to take breaks for feeding, changing diapers, or simply cuddling your baby whenever you need to.

During the session itself, my focus is on capturing the real, everyday moments of your family life. From sweet snuggles with siblings to the quiet beauty of nursing, each photograph tells a story of love and connection. It's about creating timeless memories in a relaxed and natural environment that truly reflects your family's unique journey.

After the session, almost instantly (within 72 hours), you'll get a bunch of beautifully edited high-resolution resolution photos. Each one tells a story about the love and fun you share with your baby.

They're not just pictures—they're memories you can touch that show how cute your little one is.

You can put them in frames, make a special album, or share them with everyone you know. These photos will always remind you of how sweet and special your baby's early days were, and you'll love looking back on them as your baby grows up.

Lastly, I have a few tips for you to make the session more enjoyable for you and your baby.

What to wear in a newborn and baby photoshoot?

It's best to dress your baby in simple, soft, and comfortable clothing. Avoid outfits with busy patterns or logos that might distract from your baby's adorable features. Neutral colors like white, cream, gray, or pastels tend to photograph well and complement your baby's natural beauty. You can also take advantage of my baby wardrobe, which includes a selection of cute, well-photographed clothes that you can borrow free of charge for the session. For parents, I recommend wearing outfits in natural tones. You can coordinate colors, but they don't have to match exactly. I personally find that wearing different colors from the same palette, such as olive, brown, beige, or light blue, looks great. For moms, I especially recommend wearing something breastfeeding-friendly, like shirts or dresses that are super comfy.

How to prepare for a newborn and baby photoshoot?

Let's make sure the rooms we'll be using for the shoot are warm, even in summer. Before we start, it'd be fantastic if we could tidy up a little bit in the living room and in the bedroom. If your baby could have a nice feed and a fresh diaper, it would be great. Feel free to gather any special items you'd like included in the photos to make them extra special. If your baby has dry skin, a little bit of skin cream a couple of hours before the shoot can help. Just keep in mind that while I can work magic with editing, I might not be able to completely erase any baby acne.

What if the baby cries all the time?

If your baby gets a bit fussy during the shoot, no worries—we'll take breaks for cuddles and feeding. I can even capture some real moments during these breaks. Remember, I'm a mom too, and I've been through it all. I've seen other babies cry during sessions, so I completely understand.

Whether you want it soon after birth or later, I'm here to make it work for you. After the session (within 72 hours), you'll get lots of lovely photos to share and keep forever. So, if you're ready to capture those special moments, let's talk and get it sorted!
